Overview

IEC 61076-8-110:2026 is an international standard published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) that specifies product requirements for rectangular power and signal connectors. These connectors feature 2P 300 A 1 000 V DC power contacts and 2P 5 A 50 V DC signal contacts, all within a robust, shielded plastic housing. They provide high current and voltage ratings, individual shielding for each power contact, and meet enhanced ingress protection ratings (IP65/IP68) when mated and locked, and IPXXB when unmated.

This standard addresses both free and fixed (plug and receptacle) connector configurations, offering four coding options to ensure correct mating in diverse applications. The document prescribes dimensional, electrical, mechanical, and environmental requirements to support safety, reliability, and compatibility in demanding electrical and electronic environments.

Key Topics

  • Connector Configuration:

    • 2 power contacts (2P) rated at 300 A, 1 000 V DC
    • 2 signal contacts (2P) rated at 5 A, 50 V DC
    • Plastic housing with a locking lever
    • Four possible coding options to prevent mismating
  • Protection Ratings:

    • IP65/IP68: Dust-tight and water-resistant/immersible when mated
    • IPXXB: Protection against access with fingers when unmated
  • Shielding:

    • Each power contact has individual shielding, enhancing electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)
    • Shielding termination points facilitate proper grounding
  • Mechanical and Environmental Performance:

    • Suitable for use in harsh industrial and transportation environments
    • Tested for vibration, shock, temperature extremes, and corrosion resistance
    • Climatic category: 40/125/10 (from -40°C to +125°C, 10 days damp heat)
  • Safety and Compatibility:

    • Compliance with IEC 61984 ensures the connectors are for use in class II equipment (not equipped with PE contact)
    • Satisfies clearance and creepage distance tables for safe high-voltage operation
    • Markings and dimensional requirements support system integration and safety

Applications

Connectors compliant with IEC 61076-8-110:2026 are designed for high-current, high-voltage DC applications where reliable and safe connections are essential. These include:

  • Industrial Power Distribution:
Reliable interconnection of high and low voltage signals in automation, robotics, and control systems.

  • Transportation and E-mobility:
Suitable for railway systems, commercial vehicles, and electric vehicle infrastructure that require robust, shielded, high-amperage connectors.

  • Energy and Battery Systems:
Integration into renewable energy systems, large battery packs, power converters, and energy storage, where both power and signal lines need to be combined safely in harsh conditions.

  • Heavy Equipment:
Mining, construction, and other heavy industries that require durable, high-rated connectors with proven environmental sealing.

These connectors are particularly valued in environments where dust and water ingress must be prevented, and where mismating could compromise system safety.

FOREWORD
1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote international
co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and
in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications, Technical Reports,
Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as "IEC Publication(s)"). Their
preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with
may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising
with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely with the International Organization for
Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the two organizations.
2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international
consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all
interested IEC National Committees.
3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC National
Committees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that the technical content of IEC
Publications is accurate, IEC cannot be held responsible for the way in which they are used or for any
misinterpretation by any end user.

transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional publications. Any divergence between
any IEC Publication and the corresponding national or regional publication shall be clearly indicated in the latter.
5) IEC itself does not provide any attestation of conformity. Independent certification bodies provide conformity
assessment services and, in some areas, access to IEC marks of conformity. IEC is not responsible for any
services carried out by independent certification bodies.
