Ventilation for buildings - Design criteria for the indoor environment
This European Prestandard specifies the requirements for, and methods of expressing the quality of the indoor environment for the design, commissioning, operation and control of ventilation and air-conditioning systems. For the purposes of this prestandard, the indoor environment comprises the thermal environment, the air quality and the acoustic environment. This prestandard covers indoor environments where the major concern is the human occupation but excludes dwellings.

This document applies to the design, energy performance of buildings and implementation of ventilation, air conditioning and room conditioning systems for non-residential buildings subject to human occupancy, excluding applications like industrial processes. It focuses on the definitions of the various parameters that are relevant for such systems.
The guidance for design given in this document and accompanying CEN/TR 16798-4 are mainly applicable to mechanical supply and/or exhaust ventilation systems. Natural ventilation systems or natural parts of hybrid ventilation systems are not covered by this document.
Applications for residential ventilation are not covered in this document. Performance of ventilation systems in residential buildings is covered in EN 15665 and CEN/TR 14788.
The classification uses different categories. For some values, examples are given and, for requirements, typical ranges with default values are presented. The default values are given in Annex B and a template for national specification is given in Annex A. It is important that the classification is always appropriate to the type of building and its intended use, and that the basis of the classification is explained if the examples given in this document are not used.
NOTE 1 Different standards can express the categories for the same parameters in a different way, and also the category symbols can be different.
Table 1 shows the relative position of this document within the set of EPB standards in the context of the modular structure as set out in EN ISO 52000-1.
NOTE 2 In CEN ISO/TR 52000-2 the same Table can be found, with, for each module, the numbers of the relevant EPB standards and accompanying technical reports that are published or in preparation.
NOTE 3 The modules represent EPB standards, although one EPB standard might cover more than one module and one module might be covered by more than one EPB standard, for instance a simplified and a detailed method respectively. See also Clause 2 and Table A.1 and Table B.1.

This document specifies methods for the measurement of air flow rates on site. It provides a description of the air flow rate measurement methods and how measurements are performed within the margins of stipulated method uncertainties. It gives the necessary measurement conditions (e.g. length of straight duct, uniform velocity profile) to achieve the stipulated measurement uncertainties.
The methods for measuring the air flow rate inside ducts do not apply to:
- ducts that are not circular or rectangular (e.g. oblong ducts);
- flexible ducts.

This document specifies methods for the testing and rating of dampers and valves used in air distribution systems with pressure differences up to 2 000 Pa.
The tests incorporated in this document will address:
- leakage past a closed damper or valve (for classification, see Annex C);
- casing leakage (for classification, see Annex C);
- flow rate/pressure requirement characteristics;
- torque: (see Annex A);
- thermal transmittance: (see Annex B).
The tests specified above are applicable to the following:
- measurement of leakage past a closed damper or valve;
- measurement of casing leakage;
- determination of flow rate and pressure requirements;
- measurement of torque characteristics (see Annex A);
- measurement of thermal transfer characteristics to determine insulation properties (see Annex B).
This document does not apply to the acoustic testing of dampers and valves.
NOTE Certain aspects of the dynamic performance of dampers and/or valves are dependent upon the air distribution system to which they are connected and are, therefore, difficult to measure in isolation. Such considerations have led to the omission of these aspects of the dynamic performance measurements from this document. Also, in common with other air distribution components, the results from tests carried out in accordance with this document might not be directly applicable if the damper or valve is situated in an area of non-uniform flow.

This document specifies and classifies the component/product performance characteristics, which may be necessary for the design, rating and dimensioning, placing on the market of residential ventilation products and systems to provide the predetermined performance, comfort conditions of temperature, air velocity, humidity, hygiene and sound in the occupied zone.
It defines those performance characteristics (mandatory or optional) which shall be determined, measured and presented according to relevant test methods. It provides a classification scheme, which leads to a full definition of product properties based on test methods described in various EN Standards, and gives an overview of the test standards. Distinction between mandatory and optional requirement is left to each European and national regulations.
The codification part in Annex B and the classification part in Clause 8 apply to the following products:
