Overview
SIST EN 4002:2007 is a European standard defining the requirements for aluminium alloy AL-P2219-T81 in sheet and strip forms, with thickness ranging from 0.5 mm to 6 mm, specifically developed for aerospace industry applications. This standard, prepared by the AeroSpace and Defense Industries Association of Europe (ASD-STAN), ensures that aluminium alloy components meet consistent quality, performance, and technical criteria vital for aerospace manufacturing and engineering processes.
Key Topics
This standard covers several essential aspects regarding aluminium alloy AL-P2219-T81 for aerospace use:
- Product Forms: Specifies sheet and strip with thickness between 0.5 mm and 6 mm.
- Material Designation: Focuses exclusively on the aluminium alloy AL-P2219-T81, a material recognized for its high strength-to-weight ratio and performance in demanding environments.
- Delivery Conditions: Details temper conditions such as T81, which combines heat treatment and controlled deformation to achieve the required mechanical properties.
- Technical Specifications: References related standards for chemical composition, manufacturing methods, dimensional tolerances, and characteristic properties.
- Testing and Inspection: Sets requirements for samples, test pieces, and inspection criteria as described in related aerospace material standards.
- Marking and Traceability: Specifies protocols for product identification and traceability to support quality control and regulatory compliance.
Applications
The AL-P2219-T81 aluminium alloy, as regulated by SIST EN 4002:2007, plays a crucial role in the aerospace sector due to its mechanical strength, lightweight nature, and suitability for precision forming. Key applications include:
- Aircraft Structures: Used in airframes, fuselage panels, and wing skins where strength and weight reduction are critical.
- Spacecraft Manufacturing: Ideal for pressure vessels, structural components, and support frames where reliable performance under varying loads and temperatures is essential.
- Aerospace Components: Finds application in brackets, stiffeners, and structural reinforcements that demand consistent mechanical properties.
- Precision Sheet Metal Fabrication: Supports the manufacture of complex components with stringent dimensional and surface quality requirements.
Ensuring that aluminium alloy sheets and strips conform to this standard enhances product reliability, safety, and performance throughout the aerospace supply chain.
Related Standards
SIST EN 4002:2007 is harmonized with other key standards to provide a comprehensive framework for aluminium alloy material qualification and use within the aerospace sector:
- EN 4258 - Aerospace series - Metallic materials - General organization of standardization: Outlines the structure of standards for metallic materials in aerospace applications.
- EN 4400-2 - Aerospace series - Aluminium and aluminium alloy wrought products - Technical specification - Part 2: Sheet and strip: Details specific requirements for aluminium alloy sheets and strips, including technical parameters and quality assurance measures.
- EN 4500-2 - Aerospace series - Metallic materials - Rules for drafting and presentation of material standards: Provides guidance for the creation and formatting of material standards for aluminium, aluminium alloys, and magnesium alloys.
These connected standards ensure that aluminium alloy products meet the rigorous demands of the aerospace industry, facilitating international cooperation, supply chain efficiency, and regulatory alignment.
