Overview
SIST EN 2400:2020 defines the requirements for heat resisting nickel base alloy Ni-P96-HT wires, specifically those that are cold drawn and precipitation treated, with diameters up to 10 mm. Developed by SIST (Slovenian Institute for Standardization), this standard is aligned with the European standard EN 2400:2019. The primary application of this specification is within the aerospace industry, where high-performance, heat-resistant materials are critical for safety, reliability, and durability.
Key Topics
- Material Specification: The standard covers cold drawn and precipitation treated wires made from the heat resisting nickel base alloy Ni-P96-HT, ensuring consistent mechanical and chemical properties for aerospace use.
- Dimensional Limits: Applicable to wires with diameters (D) less than or equal to 10 mm, making it suitable for a variety of aerospace manufacturing and assembly purposes.
- Production Methods: Specifies allowable production processes, including air melt, vacuum refine, or consumable electrode remelt, to achieve the required material purity and performance.
- Testing and Inspection: Outlines mechanical property verification, reverse torsion and wrapping tests, as well as marking and dimensional inspections to validate product conformity.
- Quality Assurance: Emphasizes product qualification, with specific testing programs agreed upon between manufacturer and purchaser, facilitating consistent quality in aerospace supply chains.
Applications
- Aerospace Engineering: Used in the fabrication of components that require high heat resistance and strength at elevated temperatures, such as engine parts, fasteners, and control systems.
- High-Performance Environments: Ideal for critical applications where exposure to extreme temperatures and demanding mechanical loads is common.
- Manufacturing and Maintenance: Supports both new builds and routine maintenance operations by providing reliable standards for replacement parts or upgrades in aircraft systems.
Utilizing nickel base alloy Ni-P96-HT wires as specified in SIST EN 2400:2020 ensures that aerospace manufacturers and maintenance providers comply with stringent industry regulations, helping to maintain safety and functionality in aviation operations.
Related Standards
- EN 2369: Specifies dimensions for heat resisting alloy wires with diameters between 0.2 mm and 8 mm, complementing the scope of EN 2400.
- EN 4700-004: Covers technical specifications for wrought steel and heat resisting alloy wires, providing additional details for product requirements.
- EN 4258: Outlines the general organization of standardization for aerospace metallic materials.
- EN 4500-003: Details rules for drafting and presenting material standards for heat resisting alloys in the aerospace sector.
Practical Value
Adhering to SIST EN 2400:2020 allows aerospace sector manufacturers and stakeholders to:
- Ensure product reliability through standardized material performance and rigorous testing protocols
- Facilitate international trade and sourcing of nickel base alloy wires by relying on harmonized European standards
- Streamline certification and qualification processes for both suppliers and purchasers
- Promote safety and longevity in aerospace applications where material failure is not an option
Implementing this standard demonstrates a commitment to quality, safety, and best practices within the international aerospace community.
