—          triacétate ou polylactide ;

— volne ali drugih živalskih vlaken, svile, proteinskih vlaken, bombaža, viskoze, kupro vlaken, modalnih, liocelnih, poliamidnih, poliestrskih, akrilnih, elastomultiestrskih, polipropilenskih, elastolefinskih, melaminskih, dvokomponentnih polipropilenskih/poliamidnih, poliakrilatnih in steklenih vlaken.

Overview

SIST EN ISO 1833-10:2019 defines a standardized method for the quantitative chemical analysis of textiles containing mixtures of triacetate or polylactide fibers with various other types of fibers. Using dichloromethane as the dissolving agent, this ISO 1833-10 method enables laboratories and textile manufacturers to accurately determine the mass percentage of triacetate or polylactide after the removal of non-fibrous matter. The procedure is vital for compliance verification, research, and product quality assessment in the textile industry.

This standard is maintained by the Slovenian Institute for Standardization (SIST) and is aligned with European and international requirements.

Key Topics

  • Scope and Relevance: Standard applies to textile blends comprising triacetate or polylactide mixed with a range of natural and synthetic fibers, including:

    • Wool or other animal hair
    • Silk and other protein fibers
    • Cotton, viscose, cupro, modal, lyocell
    • Polyamide, polyester, acrylic
    • Elastomultiester, polypropylene, elastolefin, melamine
    • Polypropylene/polyamide bicomponent, polyacrylate, glass fibers
  • Chemical Analysis Method:

    • The procedure utilizes dichloromethane to selectively dissolve triacetate or polylactide fibers.
    • The undissolved residue, representing other fiber types, is subsequently washed, dried, and weighed to deduce the blend composition.
  • Applicability and Limitations:

    • Not suitable if triacetate fibers have been partially hydrolyzed (saponified), as they may not dissolve completely in dichloromethane.
  • Safety and Compliance:

    • Emphasizes strict handling protocols for dichloromethane due to its toxic nature.
    • Adheres to best practices for laboratory procedures and textile testing.

Applications

SIST EN ISO 1833-10:2019 is an essential tool for:

  • Textile Manufacturers:

    • Verifying the fiber composition of yarns and fabrics for labeling accuracy and product claims.
    • Ensuring consistent yarn and fabric quality across batches, especially in blended products.
  • Testing Laboratories:

    • Conducting reliable quantitative analysis of textile blends for compliance with industry and customer specifications.
    • Supporting textile certification and product development processes.
  • Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance:

    • Meeting European and global standards for fiber content disclosures.
    • Facilitating traceability and transparency within textile supply chains.
  • R&D and Innovation:

    • Enabling the development of new textile blends and optimizing production processes by providing accurate fiber content data.

Related Standards

  • ISO 1833-1: General principles of testing - provides fundamental requirements and general procedures for quantitative chemical analysis of textiles.
  • ISO 1833 Series: Comprehensive suite of standards detailing methods for quantifying various fiber combinations in textiles.
  • EN ISO 1833-10:2019: European adoption of the ISO standard, ensuring harmonization across EU member states.

By implementing SIST EN ISO 1833-10:2019, organizations demonstrate a commitment to scientific accuracy, product quality, and international best practices in textile fiber analysis. For precise fiber identification and quality assurance in blended textiles, adherence to this standard is indispensable.
