Overview

SIST EN 2267-008:2006 specifies the product standard for UV laser printable electrical lightweight cables of the DM family, designed for general-purpose use in aircraft electrical systems. These aerospace cables operate reliably at temperatures ranging from -55 °C to 260 °C, with performance at -65 °C verified through cold testing when necessary. Developed to ensure consistent, high-quality cable performance, this standard addresses requirements crucial for on-board electronics in aviation.

A key feature of this standard is the ability to mark cables with UV laser printing or other compatible qualified markings that meet the stringent requirements of EN 3838. This ensures clear, durable cable identification in demanding aerospace environments.

Key Topics

  • Temperature Range: Specifies cable operation from -55 °C to 260 °C, supporting cold test requirements down to -65 °C for enhanced versatility in extreme environments.
  • Markability: Covers requirements for UV laser markability and compatibility with qualified marking materials as per EN 3838.
  • Cable Types: Addresses both single-core and multicore cable assemblies in the DM cable family, providing options for a variety of electrical system configurations.
  • Material and Construction: Prescribes the use of lightweight, high-performance materials such as copper or copper alloy conductors and specialized insulation systems, suitable for the tough conditions inside aircraft.
  • Quality Assurance: Aligns with stringent aerospace quality management practices, referencing EN 9133 for qualification procedures and EN 3475 series for testing.
  • Identification and Packaging: Defines requirements for cable designation, identification, marking, packaging, and labelling to streamline integration and traceability.
  • Compliance and Interoperability: References harmonized European standards to ensure cables are suitable for use in international aerospace and defense supply chains.

Applications

The cables covered by SIST EN 2267-008:2006 are primarily used in on-board electrical systems of aircraft, including:

  • Commercial and military aircraft wiring: Ensuring reliable performance in avionics, flight control, and safety-critical systems.
  • Electrical harness assemblies: Allowing for efficient installation and maintenance due to clear, durable UV laser markings.
  • Aerospace system retrofits and upgrades: Providing standardized cable options that meet rigorous modern aerospace requirements.
  • Multicore assemblies: Supporting complex wiring needs within limited onboard spaces, optimizing weight and system performance.
  • Enhanced traceability and maintenance: The robust marking and identification standards ensure ease of maintenance, fault-finding, and lifecycle management for aviation operators.

With their lightweight construction and robust operating range, DM family cables help reduce overall aircraft weight, increase energy efficiency, and maintain high standards of safety and reliability.

Related Standards

Organizations implementing SIST EN 2267-008:2006 should also consider adherence to the following related standards for optimal cable performance and interoperability:

  • EN 2267-002 - General requirements for cables, electrical, for general purpose, operating temperatures between −55 °C and 260 °C.
  • EN 3838 - Requirements and tests for user-applied markings on aircraft electrical cables.
  • EN 2235 - Technical specifications for single and multicore electrical cables, screened and jacketed.
  • EN 2084 - Technical specification for single-core general purpose cables with copper or copper alloy conductors.
  • EN 4434 - Product standard for lightweight copper or copper alloy conductors.
  • EN 3475 series - Test methods for electrical cables used in aircraft.
  • EN 9133 - Quality management systems and qualification procedures for aerospace standard parts.

These standards collectively support the safe, efficient, and regulatory-compliant implementation of electrical systems in aerospace applications, ensuring that the cables meet the demanding needs of modern aviation.
