Overview

SIST EN 60384-24-1:2007 is a Slovenian national adoption of the European Standard EN 60384-24-1:2006, which itself is identical to IEC 60384-24-1:2006. This international standard provides a blank detail specification for surface mount fixed tantalum electrolytic capacitors with a conductive polymer solid electrolyte, specifically at assessment level EZ. The document is intended as a supplementary reference to the main sectional specification (EN 60384-24), detailing the minimum requirements for the style, layout, and content expected in individual product detail specifications.

Adhering to this standard ensures that detail specifications for these types of capacitors are prepared in accordance with harmonized European and international practices, facilitating reliable interchangeability, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance in electronic component manufacturing and procurement.

Key Topics

  • Blank Detail Specification Purpose: Defines the framework, mandatory content, and presentation style for drafting product-specific detail specifications for surface mount fixed tantalum electrolytic capacitors with conductive polymer solid electrolyte.
  • Assessment Level EZ: Specifies quality assurance and testing requirements for capacitors qualified to assessment level EZ, supporting predictable performance and reliability.
  • Conformity with IEC Specifications: Emphasizes that detail specifications must comply with this blank detail specification to be considered in accordance with IEC standards.
  • Content Guidance: Outlines the list of required information, including identification of the component, construction notes, outline drawings, ratings, electrical characteristics, marking, ordering data, and inspection requirements.
  • Testing and Quality Control: References test schedules, inspection sampling, marking requirements, and ordering information critical for quality assurance in capacitor production.

Applications

The guidelines and requirements presented in SIST EN 60384-24-1:2007 are intended for organizations involved in the design, manufacturing, testing, and quality assurance of:

  • Surface Mount Tantalum Electrolytic Capacitors with Conductive Polymer Solid Electrolyte: Used heavily in electronic equipment due to their stability, low equivalent series resistance (ESR), and reliability.
  • Electronic Equipment Manufacturing: Supports consistent component specification in sectors such as telecommunications, computing, automotive electronics, medical devices, and consumer electronics.
  • Component Qualification and Procurement: Used by component manufacturers, specification writers, and procurement specialists to ensure capacitors meet harmonized international and European requirements, supporting global supply chains and cross-brand compatibility.
  • Quality Assurance Processes: Enables the implementation of standardized inspection and conformity procedures for batch release and ongoing product quality monitoring.

Related Standards

For comprehensive compliance and to ensure technical compatibility, consult these related standards:

  • IEC 60384-1: Fixed capacitors for use in electronic equipment - Part 1: Generic specification.
  • IEC 60384-24: Sectional specification for surface mount fixed tantalum electrolytic capacitors with conductive polymer solid electrolyte.
  • IEC 60410: Sampling plans and procedures for inspection by attributes (referenced for inspection levels).
  • Other Parts of IEC 60384 Series: Covering various fixed capacitor technologies and applications, supporting holistic component standardization.

Practical Value

Implementing SIST EN 60384-24-1:2007 offers several practical benefits:

  • Ensures Uniformity: Harmonizes the layout and content of capacitor detail specifications, streamlining design, qualification, and procurement processes.
  • Supports Quality Assurance: Clearly defined testing and inspection provisions ensure capacitors meet necessary performance and reliability standards.
  • Enhances Global Market Access: Compliance with internationally recognized standards facilitates acceptance of electronic products in European and global markets.
  • Assists Regulatory Compliance: Aligns with European and international requirements for electronic component documentation, reducing certification barriers.

By following SIST EN 60384-24-1:2007 as the foundation for detail specifications, manufacturers and users of surface mount fixed tantalum electrolytic capacitors with conductive polymer solid electrolyte can ensure technical interoperability, quality, and regulatory alignment across the electronics industry.

FOREWORD
1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote
international co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To
this end and in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications,
Technical Reports, Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IEC
Publication(s)”). Their preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested
in the subject dealt with may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-
governmental organizations liaising with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely
with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by
agreement between the two organizations.
2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international
consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all
interested IEC National Committees.
3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC National
Committees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that the technical content of IEC
Publications is accurate, IEC cannot be held responsible for the way in which they are used or for any
misinterpretation by any end user.
4) In order to promote international uniformity, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC Publications
transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional publications. Any divergence
between any IEC Publication and the corresponding national or regional publication shall be clearly indicated in
the latter.
5) IEC provides no marking procedure to indicate its approval and cannot be rendered responsible for any
equipment declared to be in conformity with an IEC Publication.
6) All users should ensure that they have the latest edition of this publication.
7) No liability shall attach to IEC or its directors, employees, servants or agents including individual experts and
members of its technical committees and IEC National Committees for any personal injury, property damage or
other damage of any nature whatsoever, whether direct or indirect, or for costs (including legal fees) and
expenses arising out of the publication, use of, or reliance upon, this IEC Publication or any other IEC
Publications.
8) Attention is drawn to the Normative references cited in this publication. Use of the referenced publications is
indispensable for the correct application of this publication.
9) Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this IEC Publication may be the subject of
patent rights. IEC shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
