Overview
SIST EN 50193-2-2:2017/A1:2020 sets out the performance requirements and efficiency testing criteria for open outlet, single point of use, electric instantaneous water heaters specifically intended for showering. Developed by the Slovenski inštitut za standardizacijo (SIST), this standard is aligned with European regulatory frameworks to ensure consistent quality, energy efficiency, and consumer safety for household and similar applications. The standard emphasizes the assessment of energy efficiency and is an essential reference for manufacturers, installers, and regulatory bodies working with electric instantaneous showers.
Key Topics
Scope of Application
- Applies to open outlet, single-point, electric instantaneous water heaters for shower use.
- Devices are intended for household or similar environments, with no downstream mixing.
- Excludes water heaters covered under other specific parts of the 50193 series.
Energy Efficiency Testing
- Defines standard test methods for evaluating the energy efficiency of eligible water heaters.
- Establishes requirements for measuring daily and annual electricity consumption.
- Lays out provisions for the use of smart control features and their impact on efficiency.
Regulatory Alignment
- Supports the requirements of the EU Energy Labelling Regulation (EU) No 812/2013 and Ecodesign Regulation (EU) No 814/2013.
- Provides a presumption of conformity when cited in the Official Journal of the European Union.
- Specifies load profiles and test-rig setups as per European regulatory mandates for accurate, repeatable assessments.
Applications
Implementing SIST EN 50193-2-2:2017/A1:2020 brings several practical benefits:
- Market Access: Ensures that manufacturers of electric instantaneous showers meet EU and EFTA energy labelling and ecodesign requirements, facilitating product compliance and market entry.
- Product Development: Provides clear efficiency benchmarks, supporting the design and innovation of energy-saving shower heaters.
- Consumer Confidence: Enables transparent energy efficiency information, helping consumers make informed decisions on water heaters.
- Sustainability: Encourages the adoption of energy-efficient appliances, contributing to reduced energy consumption and environmental impacts.
- Regulatory Compliance: Establishes a framework for national authorities and testing bodies to assess if products conform to current regulations.
Related Standards
For comprehensive conformity and up-to-date practices, the following related standards should be considered:
- EN 50193-1: Electric instantaneous water heaters - Part 1: General requirements.
- EN 50193-2-1: Performance requirements for local and centralized water heaters other than shower use.
- Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) No 812/2013: Sets requirements for energy labelling of water heaters.
- Commission Regulation (EU) No 814/2013: Defines ecodesign requirements for water heaters and hot water storage tanks.
Summary
SIST EN 50193-2-2:2017/A1:2020 is a critical standard for the assessment and verification of energy efficiency in single-point-of-use electric instantaneous showers. It provides harmonized testing and performance criteria essential for legal compliance, market competitiveness, and sustainable product design within the European context. Adherence to this standard supports robust consumer protection and advances energy-efficient technologies in the water heating sector.
