Introduction
Equipment manufacturers and service providers publish material properties for additively manufactured
components or specimens produced by powder bed fusion of metals using laser or electron beams.
Such published material properties are not always comparable, due to missing specifications on how
associated measurements were conducted. For example, the number of specimens tested, the number of
build jobs used, the specimen´s geometry and variations due to orientation are individually determined and
usually not published.
The objective of this document is to specify the minimum requirements for the determination and reporting
of material properties to support transparency and uniformity of material data sheets.

properties for conventional manufacturing processes (e.g., for semi-finished products, bars, profiles, bright
products), at least those material properties shall be tested and reported (see 7clause 7)) that are quantified
in the respective standards for conventional means of manufacturing. An example for the material grade

m
— elongation at break A in %
Physical properties
— relative density ρ in %
6 Optional material properties to be displayed
Optionally, properties can be shown in accordance with the material- and application requirements and the

Chemical properties:
— — corrosion resistance;
— — chemical reactivity (behaviour towards acids, bases .).
Other properties:
— — surface roughness;
— — average grain size.
7 Boundary conditions for the determination of material properties
7.1 General
The manufacturing result of a PBF process depends on multiple influencing factors along the process chain.
Therefore, it is necessary to state the boundary conditions under which the reported properties were derived.
This includes:
— — the applied PBF machine(s) (see 7.27.2);),
— — the applied feedstock (see 7.37.3);),
— — the applied process parameters (see 7.47.4);),
— — the applied shielding gas (see 7.57.5);),
