IEC 60947-5-5:2026 This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: a) re-shaping the document with the clause numbers and names to be in line with other documents of the 60947 series; b) review of the test method to reasonably determine that the latch mechanism meets the requirements of the document; c) new Annex B for special requirements for illuminated push-button type emergency stop devices, including the reference to a function to distinguish between "active and inactive" by changing the colour of the push-button depending on the illumination. This part of IEC 60947-5 provides detailed specifications relating to the electrical and mechanical construction of emergency stop devices with mechanical latching function and to their testing. This document is applicable to electrical control circuit devices and switching elements which are used to initiate an emergency stop signal. Such devices can be provided with their own enclosure and will be installed according to the product documentation. This document does not apply to: – emergency stop devices for non-electrical control applications, for example hydraulic or pneumatic; – emergency stop devices without mechanical latching function. An emergency stop device conforming to this document can also be used as part of an emergency switching off means in compliance with IEC 60364-5-53. NOTE See also IEC 60204-1:2016 and IEC 60204-1:2016/AMD1:2021, 9.2.3.4. This document identifies definitions, specifies the service conditions, details the construction requirements, defines the technical characteristics, and provides verifications for PVAs. PVAs can also include control or signalling devices, or both, associated with the distribution of electrical energy. This document applies to all PVAs whether they are designed and manufactured on a one-off basis or fully standardized and manufactured in quantity. Either the manufacture or assembly, or both, can be carried out by an entity other than the original manufacturer (see IEC 61439 1:2020, 3.10.1). In particular, it focuses on potential vulnerabilities to threats resulting in: – unintended operation, which can lead to hazardous situations; – unavailability of the protective functions (overcurrent, earth fault, etc.); – other degradation of main function. It also provides guidance on the cybersecurity management with the: – roles and responsibilities (Table 4); – typical architectures (Annex A); – use cases (Annex B); – development methods (Annex C); – recommendations to be provided to users and for integration into an assembly (Annex D); – bridging references to cybersecurity management systems (Annex K). This document does not cover security requirements for: – information technology (IT); – industrial automation and control systems (IACS), engineering workstations and their software applications; – critical infrastructure or energy management systems; – network device (communication network switch or virtual private network terminator), or – data confidentiality other than for critical security parameters; – design lifecycle management.
