This draft amendment prAB, if approved, will modify the European Standard EN IEC 60335-1:2023; it is submitted to CENELEC members
for enquiry.
Deadline for CENELEC: 2025-11-14.
It has been drawn up by CLC/TC 61.
If this draft becomes an amendment, CENELEC members are bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations which
stipulate the conditions for giving this amendment the status of a national standard without any alteration.
This draft amendment was established by CENELEC in three official versions (English, French, German).
A version in any other language made by translation under the responsibility of a CENELEC member into its own language and notified to
the CEN-CENELEC Management Centre has the same status as the official versions.

22 *Justification for no dow:
23 EN 60335-1:2012 and its amendments remain valid until all the Parts 2 which are used in conjunction with it
24 have been withdrawn. No date of withdrawal (DOW) has been given pending the updating of all Parts 2 to
25 align with this EN IEC 60335-1:2023/prAB:2025. The applicable date of withdrawal is given in each Part 2. It
26 is intended the DOW for this Part 1 will be fixed once all the Parts 2 have been updated.
27 EN IEC 60335-1:2023/prAB:2025 includes the following significant technical changes with respect to
28 EN IEC 60335-1:2023 :
29 — New test requirements for radio function products;
30 — New requirements for mains voltage selector switch;
31 — Removal of modification of test probe B of IEC 61032 in Clause 20.2;
32 — New requirements for resistors and capacitors used for protective impedance;
33 — Added usage of halogen-free cable;
34 — Modification of requirements related to EMF in products with radio function.
35 This document is read in conjunction with EN IEC 60335-1:2023 .
36 The numbering system for European clauses, subclauses, notes, tables, figures and annexes that are
37 additional to those in the IEC standard are prefixed with the letter “Z”.
38 This document has been prepared under a standardization request addressed to CENELEC by the European
39 Commission. The Standing Committee of the EFTA State subsequently approves these requests for its

141 Children and domestic animals should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
142 Check that there are no domestic animals inside the compartment/cavity of the appliance or machine before
143 use.”

146 “The instructions shall include the possible reasonably foreseeable misuse and, whenever relevant, an
147 information against the effects it may have on the safe use of the appliance.

156 8 Modification to Clause 11, “Heating”
157 11.2 Replacement:
158 Replace the first three sentences from the addition with the following:
159 “Appliances having a radio function shall be tested in accordance with 11.7 and in the following configuration:
160 — all transmitters and receivers shall be operated in transmission burst, and
161 — all transmitters and receivers shall be activated in configuration that provide the highest RF output power
162 level.”
163 9 Modification to Clause 19, “Abnormal operation”
164 19.1 Modification:
165 Delete the first sentence in the addition.
166 Delete in the second sentence of the addition the words “most unfavourable”.
167 19.15 Replacement:
168 Replace the sentence with the following:
169 “Appliances incorporating a mains voltage selector switch, are tested at all rated voltages with the mains
170 voltage selector switch set in all positions possible in turn. Appliances are operated under the conditions of
171 Clause 11. If the appliance has several modes of operation, the tests are carried out with the appliance
172 operating in each mode.”

176 10 Modification to Clause 20, “Stability and mechanical hazards”
177 20.2 Replacement:
178 Format “Hazardous moving parts” and “hazardous moving parts” in bold, respectively.

180 stop face” with “a test probe B of IEC 61032”.

183 11 Modification to Clause 22, “Construction”
184 22.12 Modification:
185 In the first paragraph, in the last sentence starting with “The requirement concerning…”, add at the end
186 “, except those intended to be installed in an area open to the public”.
187 Secretary note: The requirement concerning the choking hazard does not apply to appliances intended for
188 commercial use, except those intended to be installed in an area open to the public.
189 22.42 Replace the subclause with the following:
190 “Protective impedance shall consist of:
191 — at least two separate components; or
192 — a single Class Y1 capacitor complying with IEC 60384-14:2023, including 8.4.1, with a passive
193 flammability category B and 21 days minimum duration for the damp heat, steady-state test.
194 Component impedances shall be unlikely to change significantly during the lifetime of the appliance.
195 When two or more separate components are used for protective impedance:
196 — each capacitor shall comply with the requirements for Class Y capacitors in IEC 60384-14;
197 — each resistor shall comply with the test below.
198 Each capacitor used for protective impedance shall be appropriately rated for the working voltage and
199 environmental conditions of the application where it is used.
200 For protective impedance, if any one of the components is open-circuited or, when two or more separate
201 components are used, if each component in turn is short-circuited, the values specified in 8.1.4 shall not be
202 exceeded.
203 Compliance is checked by inspection, by measurements and, for resistors, by the following tests which are
204 carried out on ten samples of each resistor.
205 The resistance of each sample resistor is measured.
206 Each sample resistor shall then be subjected to the damp heat test according to IEC 60068-2-78, with the
207 following minimum details:
208 — temperature: (40 ± 2) °C;
209 — humidity: (93 ± 3) % relative humidity;
210 — test duration: 21 days.
211 Each sample resistor is then subjected to the impulse voltage test of Clause 14 using the next higher step for
212 rated impulse voltage from Table 15.
213 After the test, the resistance of each sample resistor is measured again, and it shall not have changed by more
214 than 10 %.
215 No failure of each sample resistor is allowed.”
216 ED GR comment: confirmation of the text will be delivered by MT37 of IEC TC61 and CLC/TC61 will copy the
217 same words (if the 2CDV will be voted positive) otherwise the CMs will introduce the text above.
218 In accordance with the above decision take during the CLC/TC61 plenary meeting, ED GR incorporate in the
219 clause the text of Annex A in IEC document 61/7363/RVC.

221 22.44 Modification:
