Overview

prEN ISO 19085-11:2026 covers safety requirements and measures for combined woodworking machines. Issued by CEN and harmonized internationally via ISO, this draft standard specifically targets machines designed to process solid wood and materials with similar properties. Combined woodworking machines integrate two or three independently usable working units - for example, sawing, planing, and moulding functions - in a single device to optimize space and functionality in wood workshops and manufacturing settings.

This standard addresses significant hazards, hazardous situations, and events that can occur during operation, adjustment, maintenance, transport, assembly, and dismantling when the machines are used as intended or subject to reasonably foreseeable misuse. Machines manufactured before the publication date of this document and several specific device configurations are excluded from its scope.

Key Topics

  • Comprehensive Safety Requirements: The standard sets out detailed requirements for control systems, machine stability, tool and fixing design, guarding, emergency stops, and prevention of access to hazardous moving parts.
  • Applicable Machine Types: Applies to combined woodworking machines with manual loading and unloading, used in continuous production, equipped with devices or working units as defined in ISO 19085-5, ISO 19085-6, ISO 19085-7, and ISO 19085-9.
  • Hazard Identification: Annex A lists all significant hazards, including mechanical, electrical, noise, dust generation, and ergonomic risks.
  • Operational Phases: Safety covers not only operation and adjustment but also assembly, transportation, maintenance, disabling, dismantling, and scrapping.
  • User Information: Specifies comprehensive requirements for instructions, warnings, and machine markings to ensure users are aware of proper operation and hazard mitigation.
  • Performance Levels: Addresses performance levels for safety functions in control systems, referencing relevant parts in the ISO 19085 series.

Applications

Combined woodworking machines are widely used in:

  • Industrial woodworking shops
